Introducing Steve C…

Profile:

Focused and motivated individual with a keen interest in supporting others to progress. Experienced in meeting and exceeding targets, whilst delivering quality, and maintaining standards in pressured and challenging situations. Previous career in managing professional services teams in the IT sector, including developing and delivering learning programmes, and now keen to use and develop information, advice and guidance skills to enable others to achieve their potential and progress in learning and work. To find out more, we asked Steve a few questions…

What would be your dream role?

My dream role would be an account manager job (full-time or part-time), based at home, with the chance to really make a difference, guiding people to help them meet their potential.

Having managed Professional Services teams in the IT sector for many years, I am skilled at meeting and exceeding targets, whilst delivering quality and maintaining standards in what can be very pressured and challenging situations.

What do people you’ve worked or volunteered with, say about you?

They’d say I take a pretty common sense approach to challenges, aiming for a relaxed, collaborative way of working with other people. As one person who I’ve worked with over the years said, “he’s committed, professional and genuinely nice to work with.”

 What are you particularly proud of?

Professionally speaking, I’m proud that a large number of people I’ve managed and mentored have gone on to have strong careers, where my mentoring has helped them develop their own effective people management skills.

Personally, I’d say being the dad of an amazing, caring thoughtful daughter, who knows the difference between right and wrong, and loves and appreciates all kinds of music and literature!

Can you tell us something not many people would know about you?

I own a number of lead and bass guitars, an incredibly complicated keyboard, an electronic drum-kit and a harmonica… still working on playing any of them to a reasonable standard!

What’s your disability? 

The main disability I have is Stage III COPD, which is manageable with some forethought, though it does affect mobility.

Professional Experience

Volunteer (2016 – present)
Developing my skills by supporting others, including:
Ability.Net: – Providing IT Support to help the elderly and disabled to use technology to achieve their goals, using laptops, tablet devices and smartphones, either in their home environments or by telephone.
Bodmin Library: – Digital Champion providing IT support for users within the library.
Local Charity: Assisting the organisation, using skills in photography, to update their marketing content and website collateral, and document the build of their new centre.

Consultancy Services Manager – Oracle Corporation (2014 – 2016)
Management of Professional Services Team comprising of Project Managers, Consultants & System Trainers for Oracle CFS (Convenience & Fuel) division following the acquisition of Micros. Reporting to the Senior Director Oracle Retail Consulting EMEA.

  • Successfully managed the relationship of SI partner integration for CFS division as the core business was divested from the Oracle portfolio.
  • Developed and implemented the strategies required for the CFS business to achieve the best outcome for the customers while ensuring full compliance with the partner model adopted by Oracle.
  • Executed structured head reduction procedures for the consultancy team and delivered required changes within timescales and budget with no appeals.

Professional Services Manager – Micros P&C Division EMEA (2012 – 2014)
Managed Project Managers, Business Consultants & System Trainers for Micros Retail UK Petrol and Convenience division after the acquisition of Torex Retail. Reporting to PSO Director UK & Ireland.

  • Initiated executed and managed a product and services control process developed using Excel to increase internal productivity, customer satisfaction levels and optimise sales opportunities.


Professional Services Manager – Torex Retail (2006 – 2012)
Managed a team of Project Managers and System Trainers for the Petrol and Convenience division of the various entities of Torex during the 2006-2012 period, reporting to Operations Director Torex Retail.
