Using Stairlifts in the Workplace

The situation has gotten better, though. Companies have an increasing number of options to aid those with restricted mobility in the workplace.

Stair lifts can be fitted on more than straight steps. They can also be fitted to curving staircases. If you have a large building with lots of stairs, a stair lift in a separate part of the building could take disabled employees straight to wherever they need to go.

Although in some cases modifications to the building might be the more cost-effective option, it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money to install these devices in most premisesregardless.

Furthermore, there’s an extra benefit for employers. By catering to disabled employees, this is a positive boost to the company image. If an employer has demonstrated they care about the needs of the more vulnerable members of society, this is a lot of good publicity for them. It might well lead to additional businesses.

For example, many disabled organisations will only work with companies that attempt to make life as easy as possible for disabled employees.

The Psychological Impact

Disabled people desire to retain as much of their independence as possible. If you have restricted mobility, you don’t want to become a burden on everyone else. It’s why a lot of people won’t ask for specialist treatment. They don’t want to place an undue amount of strain on anyone, despite the fact what they want to ask for helps those with limited mobility.

The advantage of a stair lift for anyone with a lack of mobility, as well as everyone else, is it isn’t an obtrusive piece of equipment. Everyone else can continue to walk up the stairs without having to walk back down again due to the fact someone is trying to come down on the stair lift above.

An employer who decides to install stair lifts on their premises must choose the right company to work with. Ideally, they’ll work with a company that specialises in installing stair lifts in commercial settings. A lot of companies will only work with residential purchases, for example.

Research the company before buying anything from them. If something goes wrong, you need to know you’re going to get the support you need to solve the problem as soon as possible.
Also, remember to take your insurance arrangements into account. Some insurers won’t deal with certain companies. You’ll have to make sure your company and your insurer are compatible first.

In the workplace, there are no alternatives. If a residential lift breaks down, any affected parties can simply arrange alternative accommodation. At work, the problem needs solving ASAP, otherwise the affected employees can’t do their jobs.

As well as fast maintenance, you need to have an extended warranty that covers your purchase against all possible accidents. You don’t want to invest in a large stair lift system only to lose it all because of an accident.

Comfort and Support

It’s difficult to purchase a chair to suit everyone. It’s always a good idea to try before you buy. Businesses selling chairs must take into account the needs of each individual employee. You won’t please everyone, but the important thing is the chair works as functions. It might not have all the accessories everyone wants, but as long as it delivers the sitter to their destination safely and quickly this is all that’s required.

Get to Work Early

It’s difficult to have a disabled employee on the premises without the correct facilities in place. We recommend beginning the process early and installing facilities for the disabled now. You never know when you might need to cover for someone with restricted mobility. It could happen to one of your existing employees overnight.
