We invite the employers who advertise their vacancies on Evenbreak to share how they’re making inclusion a reality in their workplaces. This week, we’re proud to spotlight Bruntwood, a UK commercial property specialist.
Why is it important to your company to employ disabled people?
We own over 100 buildings nationwide, serving a community of over 50,000 people within the Bruntwood community. Therefore it’s so important we’re inclusive and representative of the communities we operate in. One of our three key pillars in ‘Our Purpose’ is to create ‘A more equal society’, which means not just focussing on diversity internally in the make-up of our teams, but also with our partnerships across the cities.
Have you got any other Inclusive Recruitment Processes?
The HR lead said: “As a white male in his mid-thirties, I’ve been keen to lean on other people and organisations for support when it comes to inclusive processes. Our application form has evolved (accessible through our careers page) to remain concise whilst gathering key diversity information, to influence how we hire moving forwards and demographics we’re struggling to attract, as well as for us to support adjustments to the interview process.”
Do you offer flexible working?
With our product being a workspace, we’re predominantly based in our buildings. We do accommodate flexible working requests where possibl,e and we work on a one-day work-from-home basis. For our head office roles, we do offer flexibility around working hours, as we appreciate the importance of responsibilities outside of work.
What else do you offer disabled employees?
We have a variety of networks within Bruntwood, which are run by our colleagues to offer a safe space for our people and also allow them to influence and challenge business decisions, an example of this is ourNeurodiversity network.
Have you been recognised for inclusion?
We’re a Disability Confident employer; however, we realise that we’re on the start of this journey and we’re determined to have a higher representation of disabled candidates within the business moving forwards.
In a nutshell, why should a disabled candidate choose to apply to your company?
We’re a community focussed business that isn’t slowing down it’s DE&I efforts, despite what’s going on in the world. In fact, we’re determined to ramp up our efforts. We’re making great progress in relation to ethnic diversity and various initiatives, and we’ve seen an increase of Neurodiverse declaration – so we’re making strides. However, we’re very keen to attract more candidates from disabled backgrounds to increase the representation and
presence across the organisation.
