Welcome Break is one of the largest independent motorway service operators in the UK.  They employ around 5,000 team members who work to give customers what they want, when they want it. And with a level of service that exceeds their expectations.  But what opportunities are there for disabled staff?  This is what they had to say…

Why is it important to Welcome Break to employ disabled people?

We know the importance of having the most diverse team possible.  We think this will make us a more attractive business to work for. And it will help us build on our success.

Apart from advertising on Evenbreak, how else have you made your recruitment process accessible and inclusive?

We already offer individual adjustments for both our recruitment and selection processes. We just need candidates to make us aware of any support they need. We hope by using Evenbreak, candidates will recognise we are an inclusive employer and feel able to tell us what they need.

Do you offer flexible working?

We offer a range of options depending on the job role.  Options include part time hours, flexible hours to suit the candidates’ needs and remote/home working as well as job share.

What else do you offer disabled employees?

We offer career opportunities to everyone who works for us and that doesn’t just include becoming a manager. If you are particularly passionate about a certain area of the business, you can train as a specialist too. Communication is important. So, we also have Team Member forums where a unit forum representative meets their Line Manager on a monthly basis. They discuss what’s going on in the business and locally onsite. We still have lots to learn and we hope our team will help us do so.

Have you been recognised for inclusion?

From a customer perspective we’ve already made some major changes and we think we were the first motorway services to provide changing places on our sites. We want everyone to be able to access what they need. We haven’t been recognised externally yet but inclusion is important to us; for both our customers and our team.

In a nutshell, why would a disabled candidate choose to apply to Welcome Break?

We are a fun, exciting business to work for with a wide range of opportunities. We know that the key to our success is our amazing people. So, at Welcome Break you will feel valued for your contribution and recognised through our reward and recognition schemes. We have bundles of diverse career opportunities available that are available to everyone. Please come and talk to us and find out for yourself.
