Why is it important to Gowling WLG to employ disabled people?
We know that 1.3 billion people across the world have some form of disability, visible or invisible. You’ll either have a disability or know someone who does. So, creating an inclusive workplace is top of our agenda. We also know that recruiting people with different perspectives increases innovation. So, we have a diversity forum led by Chairman Andrew Witts, the firm’s Diversity Champion. The forum makes sure we attract a diverse range of talented people.
Apart from advertising on Evenbreak, how else have you made your recruitment process accessible and inclusive?
We aim to make our process accessible to all; from our career’s website through to our selection process. We ask candidates what we can do to help at every step. And then offer bespoke solutions dependant on their needs. Once candidates join us, we offer a full range of individual adjustments. Our teams work together to make our work environment inclusive to all.
Do you offer flexible working?
We do! We offer formal flexible working like part-time hours, job sharing and remote working. Plus, the more fluid agile working. Once our client, team and business needs are met, we’re happy to encourage this. It helps our people balance both personal and professional responsibilities.
What else do you offer disabled employees?
We have a disability and wellbeing network led by employees. ‘Enable’ organises events, helps people access training and provides one-to-one support. Watch below to hear Associate Vicky Green’s experience at Gowling WLG.
Have you been recognised for inclusion?
We are Disability Confident Committed and working towards being a Disability Confident Employer. We also won the ‘Excellence in Diversity & Inclusion’ award at The Lawyer Awards this year.
In a nutshell, why would a disabled candidate choose to apply to Gowling WLG?
We are committed to increasing disability confidence across the organisation. And we use the expertise of our people to improve the workplace. Our different backgrounds, strengths and perspectives are what make us relevant and valuable to our clients.
