Dr Shani Dhanda is a multi-award-winning disability inclusion specialist, thought leader, social entrepreneur, and accomplished broadcaster. She was awarded the title of the UK’s most influential disabled person at the Shaw Trust Disability Power 100 event last week.

Shani announced “I’m immensely proud to hold the number one spot as the first person from the global majority. It’s a remarkable honour that I share with those tirelessly working to create a more inclusive and accessible world. I’m dedicating this accolade to the ultimate change-maker Clare Gray, whose memory was beautifully honoured during the celebration.

I’m so grateful for those who’ve collaborated with me, mentioned my name in rooms where I wasn’t present, and recommended my work, as well as those who’ve shared my content. Your support and actions mean the world to me.

A massive shout out to all the Disability Power 100 finalists and every single disabled person who faces a world not always designed with their needs in mind. Your resilience and determination are paving the way for positive change. Keep going because you’ve got this, and let’s keep demanding the change! Thank you, Shaw Trust.”

The title follows an accolade of 6 awards in 2022 for her unwavering activism and dedication to disability inclusion. Dr Shani has also driven change with Diversability, the Asian Woman Festival, and the Asian Disability Network, all dedicated to combating global social inequality. Shani is an influential speaker, although she admits she used to hate public speaking. Find out just how inspiring she is with her educational talk why diversity and inclusion is more than someone’s job title for TEDxLondonWomen.
