We want to hear from you! We know that a picture is worth a thousand words. That’s why we’re asking disabled candidates to tell us their stories through images at this year’s Naidex Expo.
We invite candidates to come and take part in our photo shoot. Our aim is to capture as many diverse images of disabled people as possible. We hope that these images will help others understand what it’s like to live with a disability and that not all disabilities are visible.
Why are we doing this?
The representation of disabled people in media is crucial for a variety of reasons. Media plays an important role in shaping society’s perceptions, attitudes, and beliefs about disability, and it has the potential to either reinforce harmful stereotypes or challenge them.
Unfortunately, disabled people are often underrepresented or misrepresented in mainstream media, which can lead to a lack of understanding and empathy for their experiences and needs. Some of our candidates have helpfully pointed out that a lot of the stock images out there of disabled candidates are not very representative of disabled people and do sometimes misrepresent actual disabled people altogether. To tackle this issue, we would like to build up a library of images from real disabled people to use in our marketing, and this is the first step. So if you’re interested in getting involved, we’d love to hear from you.
How to get involved:
To take part, all you have to do is visit our stand at Naidex if you will be attending. Alternatively, if you won’t be attending but would like to get involved, email us at marketing@evenbreak.co.uk to let us know you would like to take part in our Disability Representation Photoshoot.
