What would be your dream role?

I’m lucky because my background in the forces makes me very versatile. I’m always happy in an environment which encourages problem solving and rising to challenges – I love leading a team, and getting the best out of people. I would relish the opportunity to recruit veterans for a company as I understand both sides and the skillsets a veteran brings.

Additionally, I learnt laser engraving, cutting and design when I left the forces, and was delighted to successfully design and cut a badge for the Help For Heroes Charity to highlight hidden wounds.  I would also welcome the opportunity to put these skills to the test for an employer.

Three laser cut pin badges – the text reads ‘HIDDEN WOUNDS – not all injuries are obvious’ and show an image of a brain with a lightning flash penetrating.

What do people you’ve worked with or volunteered with say about you?

People have said that I’m not afraid to roll up my sleeves and get involved in challenges – but equally I am confident enough to take the lead, and accept responsibility, if the case ever arises. My loyalty and honesty are the moral compass I live by.

What are you particularly proud of?

I’d have to say my 24 years with HM Armed Forces, where I learnt management skills and team building. I’ve had incredible opportunities, and if pushed, I’d say my part in assisting British and Foreign Nationals to get out of a country as civil war broke out was something I’m most proud of.

Can you tell us something not many people would know about you?

I’m a Master Scuba Diving Trainer, which is a diving instructor who has a number of specialties under their belt. Having learnt to dive in Belize, I came back to London with work, and had the opportunity to work for a diving club on weekends, which is where I met my wife!

What’s your disability?

It’s a mixed bag –  primarily I was medically discharged for complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I am pleased to say I found a way to address the situation and have come through the other side in a much stronger position.  I have intrusive tinnitus and high-end level deafness in both my ears – I wear hearing aids all the time. I have mobility issues, with osteoarthritis in both my knees and hands; a result of cold weather and weight carrying for such a long period of time.
